Olika sorters bugg
Till
skillnad från många andra danser är olikheterna mellan olika varianter
av bugg mycket liten. Tidigare fanns regionala varianter inom landet,
men sedan skapades vad vi idag kallar riksbugg och det är denna som
nu lärs ut på alla dansskolor. Denna riksbugg finns dock i flera olika
stilar som är populära på olika dansskolor. En variant är den s.k.
linjestilen där paret rör sig längs en linje på golvet, och en annan är
cirkulationsstilen där damen rör sig runt herren och paret rör sig runt
dansgolvet. Den senare är den vanligaste på dansställen. Båda är
accepterade som tävlingsbugg. Det finns också en variant som kallas
dubbelbugg där tre personer dansar, oftast en kille och två tjejer.

Different kinds
of Bugg
Unlike many other dances, the differences between the sepate versions of Bugg are very small. Earlier, there
were regional variations within the country, but then what we today
call Nation-bugg was created and this is
what is now taught in all dance schools. This
Nation-bugg exists, however, in several different styles that are
popular in different schools. One style is the
so-called line style in which the couple moves along a line on the
floor, and another is the circulation style in which the lady moves
around the man and the couple move around the dance floor. The latter is
the most common on dance floors. Both are
accepted as competition Bugg. There
is also a version called Double bug where three people dance, usually a
boy and two girls.

Dansens
historia
Bugg
kommer ursprungligen från Lindy hop, eller Jitterbug som det också
kallas, som kom till Sverige på 1940. Själva namnet bugg är också en
förkortning av Jitterbug. Dansen är en förenkling och anpassning av
dåtidens swingdanser för att passa till 50- och senare 60-talets
rockmusik. Till skillnad från de äldre swingdanserna har buggen en bas
på fyra taktslag, medan de övriga har 6 eller 8 taktslag. Buggen har
fortsatt att förändras och anpassas efter både musik och andra populära
danser, bl.a. Boogie woogie. Under lång tid dansades bugg mest till
dansbandsmusik, men nu går all populärmusik med rätt takt och
tempo bra. De tidigare varianterna som fanns har smälts samman till en,
som dock dansas med lite olika stilar (se ovan).
I den form
bugg dansas idag finns den bara i Sverige, men den har börjat spridas
utanför Sverige och det finns liknande danser i andra länder. Exempel
på det senare är norska swing och engelska ceroc eller modern jive.
Modern jive är en förenkling av jive uppblandat med salsa och har
därför ett lite annat ursprung, men den dansas till liknande musik och
stilen är så pass lik att många turer är samma för både den och bugg.
Bugg
kallas ofta Sveriges nationaldans och tillsammans med social foxtrot
och i viss mån gammalvals är det den dans som flest svenskar kan och
dansar socialt. Om man vill prova på att dansa på ett vanligt
dansställe så rekommenderas Polketten på Liseberg under sommaren! Där ges
gratis buggkurser och det är dans till levande musik flera gånger i
veckan.

The History of
the dance
Bugg is originally
developed from Lindy Hop, also called Jitterbug, which came to Sweden
in the 1940's. The name Bugg is also
an abbreviation of the Jitterbug. The dance is a
simplification and adaptation of contemporary swing dances to suit the
50- and later 60's rock music. Unlike the older swing
dances, Bugg has a base of four beats, while the others have six or
eight beats. Bugg has continued to
change and adapt to both music and other popular dances, including Boogie woogie. For a long time Bugg
was mostly danced to Swedish dance band music (so called 'dansband'), but
now all popular music with the right pace and tempo is used. The previous versions
that existed have been merged into one, but is danced with different
styles (see above).
In the form
that Bugg is danced today, it exists only in Sweden but has begun
to spread outside Sweden and there are also similar
dances in other countries. Examples of the latter
is the Norwegian Swing and the English Ceroc or Modern jive. Modern
jive is a simplification of Jive mixed with Salsa and has therefore a
slightly different origin, but it is danced to similar music and the
dances are so alike in style that many figures are the same in both
this one and Bugg.
Bugg is often
called Sweden's national dance, and together with social foxtrot and to
some extent old-time Waltz, it is the dance that most Swedes can dance
and dance socially. If you want to
try to dance on a regular dance floor, then Polketten at Liseberg can be
recommended in summer! Free Bugg courses are given, as well
as social dancing to live music several times a week.

Karaktären
i bugg
Bugg är en ovanlig pardans genom
att de dansande
enbart håller i händerna större delen av tiden och byter grepp ofta.
Dansen är en helt improviserad dans där herren för damen in i olika
mönster med snurrar åt olika håll. Även som tävlingsdans ska buggen
vara helt improviserad och får inte innehålla akrobatik. Bugg har inget
fast tempo och på tävlingar dansar man vanligtvis både till långsam,
medel och snabb musik. Vanligast är dock att man dansar till musik på
ca 32-34 bpm (takter per minut). Notera att buggarna ofta räknar
antalet taktdelar i låtar i stället för antalet takter och enligt det
sättet att räkna är en låt ca 128-136 bpm. Fördelen med att dansen är
improviserad och kan dansas till musik i olika tempo är att man inte
behöver kunna så jättemycket för att kunna dansa socialt och ha roligt
med dansen, men samtidigt finns det utrymme för utveckling och mycket
nytt att lära sig.

The Character of
Bugg
Bugg is an
unusual dance in the respect that the dancers only hold hands most of the
time and frequently change grip. The
dance is an entirely improvised dance in which the man leads the lady
in different patterns with spins in different directions. Also as competition dance the Bugg should be completely
improvised and may not include acrobatics. Bugg
has no fixed rhythm and in dance competitions you usually dance
to both slow, medium and fast music. Most
common is that you dance to the music of about 32-34 bpm. Note
that Bugg-dancers often counts all the beats in the songs instead of
the first beat in every measure and then a song is
about 128-136 bpm. The
advantage of the dance being improvised and possible to be danced to
music in different tempo is that you don't have to know so much to
dance socially and have fun with the dance, on the same time as there
is still a scope for development and much new to learn.
